STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore
Larry Boh (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) grabbed his first career interception in UW-Stevens Point football's 31-3 loss to UW-Platteville (2-3, 1-1) in Saturday's Homecoming game.
Boh's interception was the Pointers' fifth of the season, good for fifth-most by a WIAC team.
Carter Borchardt (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) led the UWSP defense with seven tackles, including a team-high 1.5 tackles for loss.
Trey Schroder had 10 completions for the Pointers (1-4, 0-2) for 63 yards. He also led the rushing attack with 31 net yards.
The Pioneers took their first drive the distance for an early 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter after blocking a UWSP punt, the Pioneers extended the lead to 14-0.
Early in the second quarter, the Pioneers made it a three-score game with a 21-0 lead. Midway through the quarter, the Pioneers were driving again. Boh made an acrobatic interception in the back of the endzone to squash the scoring threat.
Following Boh's interception, the UWSP offense moved the ball to midfield. A personal foul late hit by the Pioneers set the Pointers up in visitor's territory. Just before halftime,
Victor Ponterio (Melrose, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) kicked a 44-yard field goal to get UWSP on the board.
UWP put 10 points on the board in the third quarter to take a 31-3 lead to the fourth. The Pointers had a 13-play drive in the fourth quarter, but the drive stalled at the UWP 15 with a turnover on downs.
The Pointers will face UW-Stout at home next Saturday (Oct. 15) in the annual Spud Bowl. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. and fans can search for golden potatoes to win prizes once the gates open at 12:00 p.m.
