MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (6-8-4, 3-2-2) closed out the regular season with a 2-1 win at UW-Stout (2-13-3, 1-5-1). The win secured the four-seed for UWSP in the WIAC Tournament and home match on Tuesday against UW-Platteville.
Olivia Piloni (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle Township) got the Pointers on the board in the 10th minute. Her second of the year was assisted on by
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) and
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne).
Heather Iverson (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) scored her first career goal in the 34th minute, the eventual game-winner. Frierdich picked up her second assist of the match and UWSP held a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Blue Devils put up a furious fight in the second half and pulled one back in the 72nd minute. UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made two of her seven saves after that to secure the win.
UWSP host UW-Platteville on Tuesday (Nov. 1) for a 2:00 p.m. match in the first round of the WIAC Tournament.
