Leising Scores Late as Pointers Drop One-Goal Game in Home Opener

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (0-1-0) fell by a 2-1 final to visiting St. Olaf (1-0-0) in the home opener at K.B. Willett Arena on Friday.

The teams skated to an even first period with neither team able to solve the other's goaltender. Both netminders had eight saves through a scoreless first.

The visiting Oles broke the scoreless draw at 2:48 of the second period. Midway through the second period, St. Olaf earned a power play and took advantage at 11:12 of the second to push UWSP's deficit to 2-0.

Late in the third, Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) got UWSP on the board. Freshman Maddie Andrle notched her first career point with a feed to Leising's tape in the slot as UWSP got within one at 17:55. The Oles gained control of the puck in the final minute and squashed the Pointers' hope of a tying goal.

UWSP goaltender Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 20 saves. St. Olaf goalie Devon Cole had 23 saves.

The Pointers and Oles close out opening weekend on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 2:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena. Fans can get into both the UWSP women's and men's game on Saturday with the same ticket from the women's matinee.
