DE PERE, Wis. – The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (0-1-0) came back twice in an eventual 3-2 loss in overtime at No. 6 St. Norbert (1-0-0) in Friday's season opener.
The Green Knights took the lead at 6:03 in the first period. It was the first of the night for SNC's Ben Schmidling.
At 12:47 of the first, senior
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C./) tied the game at 1-1.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) and
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich./) had assists on the goal.
Schmidling put SNC back in front at 4:43 of the second period and the Green Knights held a one-goal edge heading into the third.
Northey made it a two-point night as he assisted on the game-tying goal by
Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn./) at 11:58 of the third period.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich./) also had an assist on the play.
The Green Knights got a power play in overtime and cashed in with the game-winner at 3:39 of overtime.
UWSP goaltender
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) had 24 saves. SNC goaltender Colby Entz made 23 stops.
