STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-8-4, 1-2-2) suffered a 2-0 defeat to visiting UW-Eau Claire (9-5-1, 3-2-0) in the regular season home finale for UWSP.
Neither team was able to generate much of an offensive attack in the first 45. The Pointers had just a single shot on goal by
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) while UWEC had two shots on goal and another that rang off the crossbar.
In the second half, the Blugolds broke through in the 47th minute for a 1-0 lead. Dunn again fired a shot on net in the 58th minute to no avail. UWEC doubled its lead in the 60th minute.
Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) had a shot on goal in the 67th minute, UWSP's final shot on target.
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made two saves in goal to keep UWSP within striking distance. She was aided twice by the crossbar, once in each half. UWEC keeper Kennedy Boll recorded three saves for the shutout.
The Pointers head out on the road for the final two regular season games. Next up on UWSP's slate is a 7:00 p.m. match at UW-Platteville on Saturday (Oct. 22).
