Peterson Surpasses 2,000 Digs Plateau for Pointers

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Senior Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) became the third player in the history of the UW-Stevens Point volleyball program to record 2,000 career digs as the No. 15 Pointers (19-6, 3-3) fell in three sets at UW-Platteville (19-6, 3-3).
 
Peterson tied for the match high with 12 digs on the night. She now has 2,008 for her career, third in the program annuls behind Hannah Picel (2,503) and Lori Marten (2,163). Peterson added three assists and had two service aces. Kelsie Belfiori (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) added 11 digs.
 
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had 15 assists and Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was the lone Pointer in double figures with 10 kills as UWSP was held to a season-low .029 hitting percentage.
 
Kopp had five early kills as UWSP took a 6-5 lead in the first set. Peterson served up one of her aces in a 4-0 spurt that put UWSP ahead, 10-8. Peterson's second ace came amid a 7-2 run as UWSP got within 23-21 late, but the Pioneers took the first set, 25-21.
 
Kopp and Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had two kills each and Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had the other as UWSP was held to five kills and just 10 points in a 25-10 set two final.
 
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had a kill and a block as UWSP edged in front, 4-3, early in the third. Meyer had three kills and UWSP stayed close with 9-9 and 13-13 ties. Summer Salettel (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) had a kill and a block in an 8-2 run by UWP as UWSP fell behind 21-15. Salettel had two more kills, but UWSP could only get as close as 23-22 late.
 
The Pointers return home to host the CCIW/WIAC Crossover on Friday (Oct. 21) and Saturday (Oct. 22). UWSP will face Illinois Wesleyan on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Friday will be UWSP's cancer awareness match and a "gold out" at Berg Gym.
