STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Offense was hard to come by on a soggy and cold day at Point Soccer Bowl as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-7-4) came up short in a 2-0 loss at home in the non-conference finale to Saint Mary's (7-5-2).
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half after rain showers began before first kick and fell mostly throughout the first 45. UWSP was able to generate three shots on target and UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) needed just one save to secure a scoreless first stanza.
The Cardinals broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute with a long drive to the back post. In the 66th minute, SMU earned a penalty kick and increased its lead to 2-0.
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) had a game-high four shots on goal.
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) added two as UWSP out-shot SMU 8-3.
The Pointers host UW-Eau Claire in the regular season home finale on Wednesday (Oct. 19). Match time is 3:00 p.m. at Point Soccer Bowl.
