UWSP Volleyball Splits Matches at Edgewood Tri

MADISON, Wis. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (19-5) split a pair of matches at the Edgewood Tri on Saturday. UWSP swept Aurora (16-8) before falling in four sets to host Edgewood (14-9).
 
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had a double-double in both matches with 31 kills and 24 digs on the day. Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players in assists in both matches with 35 and 29 on the day, respectively. Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led UWSP in digs in both matches with 13 and 18.
 
As a team, UWSP kept up its stellar blocking with 19 on the day. In the match against Edgewood, UWSP served up a season-high 15 aces.
 
UWSP 3, Aurora 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21)
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had four kills as UWSP took an 11-9 lead early. Kopp had five kills and an ace as UWSP battled back from a 20-18 deficit to take the first set.
 
Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had a pair of kills as UWSP opened the second set with an 8-4 lead. Kopp had five kills down the stretch and an ace to propel UWSP to the second set victory.
 
Grace Regnier (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) had a kill and a block as UWSP began to dig out of an early hole in the third set. Mosinski had a pair of blocks as UWSP crawled ahead, 17-16. Following a 21-21 tie, Mosinski had a kill, Megan Schroder (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) served up an ace and Mosinski combined with Meyer for a block to end the match.
 
UWSP 1, Edgewood 3 (25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 22-25)
Kelsie Belfiori (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) served up three aces as UWSP began the first set with a 7-0 advantage. Michalske served up three-straight aces as the lead grew to 14-2. Peterson had one and Schroder served up two more aces as UWSP rolled to the opening set win.
 
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) had two kills as UWSP eked ahead, 5-4, to start the second. After the Eagles used a 9-3 run to pull ahead, 22-16, Larson served up consecutive aces as UWSP got within three. EC held off the late rally to take the set.
 
Regnier had three blocks and a kill to give UWSP a 6-4 lead in the third. Meyer had three kills in a 6-0 burst as UWSP gained a 17-15 lead. Consecutive kills by Kopp make it 23-all, but EC scored the final two points to win the set.
 
Edgewood began the fourth set with a 9-2 lead. Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had two kills in a 6-0 run as UWSP got within 12-11. Paukner had for more kills and Larson added two as the Eagles held off the Pointers for the match win.
 
The Pointers travel to UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Oct. 19) for a league contest at 7:00 p.m.
