STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (9-6, 2-4) came up short in league play as UW-La Crosse (11-7, 3-4) took a 67-49 final at Berg Gym on Saturday.
Taylor Greenheck (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) led the Pointers in scoring with 10 points. Fellow senior
Jessica Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) just missed double figures with nine.
Anna Schoenike (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) pulled down a team-best five rebounds.
Greenheck buried a three and
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) hit a pair of free throws as UWSP went ahead 5-2 early. Schoenike completed an and-one for an 8-6 edge, but UWSP trailed 14-13 at the end of the first.
Slowik hit three of UWSP's four made field goals in the second quarter. Greenheck drilled another three-pointer for the other and the Pointers were down 37-25 at the half.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and Schoenike each made a bucket in the third quarter, but UWL extended the lead to 52-36 heading to the fourth.
Greenheck scored in the opening minute of the fourth, but the Eagles put up an 11-2 run before Schoenike made a layup halfway through.
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis. /North) and
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) scored six combined down the stretch.
The Pointers will travel to UW-Whitewater on Wednesday (Jan. 26) for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
