RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 13 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (11-5-1, 6-2-0) allowed a pair of third-period goals in a 3-2 defeat at UW-River Falls (10-7-1, 6-2-0).
The Falcons broke a scoreless tie at 13:49 of the first period and held the lead for nearly 20 minutes.
At 13:31 of the second period,
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) tied the game at 1-1.
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) and
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) had assists on the goal.
Less than three minutes later,
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored to give UWSP the lead.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) and
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) had helpers on the play.
UWSP's lead lasted until the 11:45 mark of the third period. Three minutes later, the Falcons scored on the power play to take the lead again. The Pointers peppered UWRF goaltender Dysen Skinner with eight shots over the final 5:01 of the game, but were unable to get the equalizer past him.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) made 21 saves for the Pointers. Skinner had 40 saves for UWRF.
The Pointers and Falcons, now tied for first in the WIAC, will complete the weekend with the series finale in River Falls on Saturday. Puck drop at Hunt Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
