Women’s Hockey Shuts Out SMU for Third-Straight Victory

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-7-0) earned a 5-0 shutout win over visiting Saint Mary's (6-5-0) on Sunday, the third-straight win on the weekend.

The Pointers' three-game win streak is the longest since the start of the 2019-20 season.  The back-to-back shutouts for UWSP were the first since three-straight in January 2018.  The 20 goals scored over the three-game win streak are the most by the Pointers since scoring 22 in a three-game stretch in November 2012.

Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) continued her red-hot weekend with the opening goal of the game at 18:02 of the first period.  Her goal was assisted by Kayla Stumo (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine).

UWSP extended the lead to 2-0 on a Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) power-play goal just 58 seconds into the second period.  Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) picked up an assist on the play.

Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) put the Pointers ahead 3-0 with an unassisted tally at the 2:03 mark of the third period.

Gina Magro (Tower Lakes, Ill./Barrington) fired a wrister past the SMU goaltender at 17:05 of the third to push the lead to 4-0.  Bella Moskonas (Greenfield, Wis./) had the helper on the goal.

Neuberger notched her second of the game at 18:32 to complete the scoring.  Leising grabbed her second point of the night with an assist on the play.

Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 26 saves for the shutout win.  SMU netminder Jordan Keeley had 27 saves.

The Pointers return to action with a pair of road conference games at UW-River Falls on Jan. 14 and 15. Puck drop is slated for 2:30 p.m. both days.
