Women’s Hockey Nets Seven Unanswered to Down Marian

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-9-0) erased a one-goal deficit after the first period to knock off Marian (4-9-2) by a 7-1 final.
 
The Pointers fell behind with 1:54 left in the first period after a Sabres goal on a rebound.
 
UWSP capitalized on its only power play of the game with Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) tying the game at 1-1 at 3:56 of the second period.  The goal came just six seconds into the power play and Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) got her first point of the night with an assist.
 
Heitsman put UWSP in front at the 8:37 mark of the second on a nice wrister from the blue line off a pass from Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac).
 
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) pushed the UWSP advantage to 3-1 at 10:L40 of the second.  Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East) had an assist on the play.
 
In the third period, Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) opened the scoring at 2:45.  Heitsman notched her third point on the night with an assist and Kremer had an assist as well.
 
Millar scored at 4:01 of the third with Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and Kayla Stumo (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) adding helpers.
 
At 9:48, Zipp scored a goal with Lindsey McLean (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Ryan Ruoho (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) getting assists.
 
Haley Sellers (Kenosha, Wis./Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) completed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 16:31.
 
Shayna Grais (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) made 18 saves in net for the win.  Marian goaltender Kayla Kolpitcke had 41 saves.
 
The Pointers remain at home with a matchup against No. 4 UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Jan. 22). Puck drop at Ice Hawks Arena is slated for 2:30 p.m.
