STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 13 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (11-4-1, 6-1-0) put four goals up in the first period en route to a 7-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire (6-10-0, 2-5-0).
Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) broke the scoreless tie at 10:33 of the first period.
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) and
Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn.) had assists on the play.
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) made it 2-0 at 18:35 of the first.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) got an assist on the goal.
In the final minute of the first period,
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C.) and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) scored to double the lead to 4-0. McReynolds scored with 33.1 left with assists from
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C.) and
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.). Roo scored on a wraparound with 4.6 seconds remaining with
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) and
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) getting assists.
Just 1:38 into the second,
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn.) made it 5-0.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) and Sciarrino had helpers.
The Blugolds got on the board late in the second and the scored remained 5-1 until midway through the third.
Finstrom scored off assists from Humberstone and
Evan Junker (Elk River, Minn. ) to make it 6-1 at 10:46 of the third.
Theis scored his second of the night on the power play with 2:40 remaining in regulation.
Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill.) and Finstrom had assists on the play.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) stopped 21 shots for the win. UWEC goaltenders Ryan Oulette and Riley McVeigh combined for 26 saves.
The Pointers head west for a weekend series at UW-River Falls beginning on Friday (Jan. 21). Puck drop at Hunt Arena is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
