RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-9-0) suffered a 5-0 defeat at No. 4 UW-River Falls (14-1-0) in non-conference action on Sunday.
The Falcons opened the scoring just 1:01 into the game. UWSP goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 21 saves the remainder of the period to keep the deficit at 1-0.
UWRF pushed the deficit to 2-0 at 4:29 of the second period. Schultz again came up big, stopping 15 more shots after the goal to keep UWSP in the game heading to the third.
An early power-play goal in the third gave UWRF a 3-0 lead. The Falcons would tack on two more goals in the period to complete the scoring.
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) led the Pointers with four shots on goal. Schultz made 46 saves in the game. UWRF goaltender Pistol Cowden stopped 13 shots for the shutout win.
The Pointers return home to face Marian on Tuesday (Jan. 18). Puck drop at Ice Hawks Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
