Women’s Tennis Wins Twice Sunday, Off to Best Start Since 2009

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team is 4-0 to begin the season, the best start since 2009.  The Pointers swept Marian, 9-0, and beat Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-1, on Sunday.
 
UWSP's duos of Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) at No. 1 doubles won both matches on the day with an 8-1 win against Marian and 8-3 versus WLC.  Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) also won twice at No. 2 doubles, 8-0 and 8-6, respectively.
 
In singles, Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 against Marian.  Versus WLC, Hess took the No. 4 singles match by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
 
Chloe Moline (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) won her first collegiate match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles versus Marian.
 
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) went 2-0 on the day in singles.  She played No. 3 against Marian and won 6-4, 6-2.  Scharf scored a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 against WLC.
 
Covek, Koepp and both Leitholds won singles matches as well.  Covek scored a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1 versus WLC.  Koepp took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 against the Warriors.  Faith won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 against WLC and Chloe picked up a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 versus Marian.
 
Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles against Marian.
 
The Pointers head out for a road match on Wednesday (Sept. 8).  First serve in Madison against Edgewood is slated for 3:30 p.m.
