STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (1-2-0) scored four goals in the first half to pick up the first win of the year, 4-3 over visiting Hamline (1-1-0).
The Pipers scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute of play.
The Pointers equalized in the 21st minute as
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) drilled a free kick over the HU keeper's head.
Less than a minute later, the Pipers regained the lead with a goal off a cross.
In the 33rd minute,
Lauren Johnson (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./SPASH) took a free kick from outside the box. She powered the ball over the wall and the goalkeeper to put UWSP level again.
Two minutes,
Olivia Piloni (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle Township) put the Pointers in front for the first time all season. She won a scramble in the box on a corner kick by Johnson.
UWSP wasn't done. In the 40th minute,
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) scored her first career goal, the eventual game-winner.
Hamline added a goal in the 54th minute to make it a one-goal game. UWSP goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made seven saves late in regulation to secure the win.
Nieman made nine saves in the match for her first win of the year. Hamline's Lauren Sicora made four second-half saves.
The Pointers head out for a road match on Tuesday (Sept. 7) at Wheaton. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
