STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-2-0) suffered a second-straight double overtime defeat, this time 2-1 at the hands of visiting St. Olaf (1-0-1) in the home opener on Saturday.
The Oles got on the board first in the 27th minute. A through-ball up the middle into the box was powered in for the opening goal.
Early in the second half, the Pointers pulled level.
Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) scored her first career goal int eh 48th minute. Her tap-in goal came after a
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) shot that was saved off the crossbar.
The score remained tied until the final minute of the second overtime period. A St. Olaf shot attempt was saved by
Brookelyn Heiss (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta), but the rebound fell to Lucia Ranallo, who placed the game-winner back post.
The Pointers earned 10 corner kicks in the match, but were unable to convert on any. The Oles out-shot the Pointers, 19-14.
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) started the match making three saves in the first 45 minutes. Heiss made four saves in 65 minutes of action.
The Pointers are back in action on Sunday (Sept. 5) with a home match against Hamline at 1:00 p.m.
