OSHKOSH, Wis. – For the second-straight season, the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (13-0, 2-0) defeated league rival UW-Oshkosh (0-4, 0-2) by a 9-0 final. The victory extends UWSP's program record win total and win streak to 13.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) needed a super-breaker at No. 1 singles to complete the sweep. She won the first set, 6-3, before a 6-4 setback in set two. In the super-breaker, Covek took the match with a 10-2 score.
Covek paired with
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) an No. 1 doubles for an 8-3 win. At No. 2 doubles,
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) picked up the win by an 8-1 final.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) had little trouble at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) took No. 3 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2 while
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) reversed the set scores, 6-2, 6-1, to win at No. 5 singles.
Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) got the victory at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 final.
UWO forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles to complete the scoring.
The Pointers head to Milwaukee on Saturday (Oct. 2) for matches against Concordia Chicago and Alverno at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
