STEVENS POINT, Wis. –
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) scored a first half brace and
Brookelyn Heiss (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) notched her second-straight clean sheet as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-7-0) closed out non-conference play with a 4-0 win over visiting Carthage (3-6-0).
Frierdich put the Pointers in front in the 10th minute with a tap in goal after a cross from
Mara Gustafson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) fell to her feet.
Gustafson again started the sequence leading to Frierdich's second goal. Her cross fell to
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop) and her shot attempt deflected right to Frierdich for another tap in.
In the second half, Frierdich was in the middle of the action again. This time, she was tripped up in the box giving UWSP a penalty kick opportunity.
Hannah Kroupa (New Berlin, Wis./West) stepped up to the spot and buried the kick for a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute.
The Pointers closed out the scoring in the 69th minute.
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) served in a ball to Dunn in space. Dunn then ripped a shot from 20 yards out over the keeper's head into the net.
Heiss made four saves for her second shutout in a row. Carthage goalkeepers Sara Lieffrig and Emily Eckheart combined for eight saves.
The Pointers remain at home to open conference play on Saturday (Oct. 2) with a 1:00 p.m. tilt versus UW-La Crosse.
