STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Freshman
McKenzie Johnson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) found the back of the net for her first career goal as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-8-0, 0-1-0) dropped the league opener to UW-La Crosse (8-2-1, 2-0-0) by a 4-1 final on Saturday.
Johnson's goal was too little too late as her tally in the 59th minute cut the deficit to 3-1 at the time.
Sophia Reddan (Madison, Wis./West) got the assist on the goal.
UWL put the first goal on the board in the 37th minute. The Eagles' lead doubled just 34 seconds before halftime.
Early in the second half, the Eagles made it a 3-0 game in the 50th minute. Following Johnson's goal, UWL completed the scoring in the 82nd minute.
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was back in net for the Pointers. She made eight saves. UWL goalkeeper Quinn Shannon stopped three UWSP shots.
The Pointers head to UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Oct. 6) to continue league play with a 7:00 p.m. match.
