Derousseau Career-High Not Enough as Pointers Fall on the Road

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 19 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (15-3) saw its win streak snapped in straight sets at Augsburg (10-6) on Wednesday.  The Pointers played well and narrowly lost in each set for a 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 final.

Reis Derousseau (Tomah, Wis./Tomah) posted a career-best 11 kills for the Pointers, her second double-figure match of the year.

Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Pointers with 16 kills.  Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led UWSP with 13 digs and Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had a team-high 34 assists.

Kopp recorded a kill, her third-straight UWSP point, initiating a three-point run as the Pointers got within one at 11-10.  Guresi Mena (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) got a kill to begin another three-point burst as UWSP tied the set at 16-16.  Abby Neutz (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) buried her fourth kill of the set for a 21-20, but the Auggies posted five of the next eight points to clinch the set.

Derousseau posted a pair of kills in a 4-2 run capped by a Katie Albrecht (West Bend, Wis./East) ace as UWSP led 15-12 midway through the second set.  Derousseau added two more kills down the stretch, but again Augsburg closed strong to win the second set.

Kopp and Derousseau combined for five kills and Kopp added an ace as UWSP jumped ahead 7-2 early in the third set.  The Auggies battled back with a couple of runs to take a 19-15 lead.  The Pointers weren't done battling as Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) and Kopp powered up for seven kills late in the set to get UWSP within 24-23 before AU closed the match.

The Pointers continue the road swing with a league match at UW-Stout on Friday (Oct. 1) at 7:00 p.m.
