MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Pont volleyball team (16-3, 3-0) kept its unbeaten start to league play intact with a straight-sets victory at UW-Stout (9-7, 1-2) on Friday.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) led all players with 11 kills, her fourth double-digit match of the year. She also topped all players with four blocks on the night.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added a double-double for the Pointers with 10 kills and 13 digs. It was her 11th double-double on the year.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had a game-high 20 assists and
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led UWSP with 17 digs.
Mosinski accounted for UWSP first three points with kills to spark an 8-4 start to set one.
Guresi Mena (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) recorded her third kill of the set to ignite an 8-2 run to bring UWSP to a set one win, 25-21.
Mosinksi and
Reis Derousseau (Tomah, Wis./Tomah) combined on back-to-back blocks to start a 10-1 run giving UWSP a 20-11 lead in set two.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) served up two aces in the run as the Pointers eased to a 25-16 win.
UWSP found itself in an 18-8 hole in set three before Kopp powered back-to-back kills to wake up the Pointers' offense.
Megan Lau (Potter, Wis./Hilbert) posted four kills with
Jadyn Clarner (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and
Sophia Lee (Lake Mills, WIs./Lake Mills) registering the match-clinching block in a 17-4 run to close set three.
The Pointers continue the road trip and league play on Wednesday (Oct. 6) with a 7:00 p.m. match at UW-Eau Claire.
