STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (12-0) set a new standard within its own program by winning the 12th match of the year on Wednesday.  The mark is a program record for single season wins.  The Pointers were nearly perfect in defeating visiting Lakeland (1-6) by a 9-0 final score.
 
The UWSP doubles teams cruised to 8-0 wins across the board.  Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) improved to 11-1 at No. 1 doubles.  Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and Greta Corcoran (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) took care of business at No. 2 doubles and UWSP's No. 3 doubles duo of Emily Shipman (Medford, Wis./Medford Area) and Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) picked up their first win in as many matches together this season.
 
In singles action, the Pointers relinquished just a single point across 12 sets of play.  Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) took No. 1 singles, as did Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) at No. 2, Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) at No. 3, Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) at No. 4 and Chloe Moline (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) at No. 5 by identical 6-0, 6-0 finals.  Abigail Ashley (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) had not trouble at No. 6 singles winning 6-0, 6-1.  Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska), Woelfel, Moline and Ashley are undefeated in singles play this season.
 
The Pointers now head to the ITA Midwest Regional beginning on Friday (Sept. 24) in Whitewater.  The weekend tournament begins at 9:00 a.m. each day.
