Dunn, Gerred Score in Second Half for Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-4-0) saw its home win streak come to and end with a 3-2 defeat to visiting Luther (2-3-0) on Sunday.

The visiting Norse went ahead in the 22nd minute and held the one-goal lead into the second half.  Luther doubled its lead in the 51st minute for a 2-0 advantage.

Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) pulled one back for the Pointers in the 57th minute.  She hit a cross from Jacqueline Aleman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), one-touch, to the back post for her second goal of the season.

The Norse put the UWSP deficit back to two in the 69th minute, but the Pointers continued to battle.

With exactly three minutes left, Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop) got the Pointers back within a goal.  She made a phenomenal run through the middle and beat the defender to the ball.  She ran onto a long pass forward by Mara Gustafson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port).

After a clean sheet on Saturday, UWSP goalkeeper Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) had just one save on Sunday.  Her counterpart Irelyn Baumberger made six saves for Luther.

The Pointers will now head out for a four-match road trip beginning on Friday (Sept. 17) in Texas.  UWSP will face Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7:30 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
