OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (20-15) dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh (19-9) on Tuesday. The Pointers fell in five innings in both games, 10-2 and 9-0.
Lauren Luedtke (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) hit safely in both games with a double, stolen base and an RBI.
Maddie Candre (St. Charles, Ill./East),
Sara Traxel (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) and
Rachael Wakefield (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) also had two hit each. Candre and Traxel had both in game one while Wakefield had two hits in game two.
The Titans put at least one run on the board in every inning on Tuesday.
Game 1 – UWSP 2, UWO 10 (5)
Traxel singled to lead off the second and moved to second on a sac bunt by
Madi Greenaberg (Downers Grove, Ill./North), but UWSP couldn't even the game.
Candre reached on an infield single with two outs in the third. Luedtke doubled to center as Candre raced home to make it 2-1.
In the fourth, Traxel again led off with a single. She stole second, but was stranded there to end the frame.
The Titans added seven runs in the fourth to put UWSP's deficit at 10-1.
Megan Lawrence (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) singled with one away in the fifth. Candre followed with a double and both runners remained in scoring position. Luedtke was hit by a pitch to load the bases. An RBI fielder's choice by
Sammy Buerger (Oshkosh, Wis./North) scored one, but UWSP couldn't tack on more to extend the game.
Game 2 – UWSP 0, UWO 9 (5)
Buerger hit a two-out double in the first to no avail as she remained on base to end the inning.
Wakefield got aboard with a one-out single in the second. Luedtke singled and Buerger walked with two outs in the third. UWSP got another one-out single by Wakefield in the fourth, but all resulted in stranded runners.
UWO scored three runs in the first and again in the third. The Titans capped off the scoring with two in the fourth.
The Pointers close out the regular season with a doubleheader at UW-Stout on Friday (May 7). First pitch in Menomonie is set for 5:00 p.m.
