STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (4-1, 1-1) swept visiting UW-Oshkosh (0-3, 0-2) by a 9-0 final. It was UWSP's first sweep of the Titans since 1986 and first win over UWO since 2013.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) secured the sweep by rallying to win a 10-8 super tiebreak at No. 1 singles. She dropped the first set, 6-3, before taking the second set by the same 6-3 score to force the tiebreak.
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) took care of business at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Koepp teamed with Covek for a 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) defended her WIAC Singles Athlete of the Week honor with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. She teamed with
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Anna Dobbe (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) earned identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Hess did not lose a point on the day as she won No. 3 doubles, 8-0, with teammate
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland).
Leah Hollander (Portage, Wis./Portage) won her No. 5 singles match by a 7-5, 6-2 final.
The Pointers remain at home and take on UW-River Falls on Saturday (April 10) at University Courts. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
