STEVENS POINT, Wis. – For the first time since 2010, the UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team is 3-0 to start the season. The Pointers won Thursday's home opener over Marian (0-1) by an 8-1 final.
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) won her third-straight singles match with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 4.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) also improved to 3-0 in singles by winning her No. 3 match 6-0, 6-1.
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) took the No. 2 singles match by a 6-2, 6-1 score.
Anna Dobbe (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) swept her No. 6 singles match 6-1, 6-2.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) won UWSP's No. 1 singles match with a 10-3 tiebreak after split sets 6-2, 2-6.
Leah Hollander (Portage, Wis./Portage) also needed a tiebreak to win at No. 5 singles. She dropped the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6, before winning set two, 6-4. She earned the match win 10-2 in the tiebreaker.
Covek paired with
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-2 win.
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and
Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
The Pointers played all 11 active members of the team on Thursday.
UWSP will open conference play on Saturday (April 3) at UW-Eau Claire. First serve is slated for 12:00 p.m.
