RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (3-5-1) fell to host UW-River Falls (7-1-0) in the first game of the WIAC Tournament semifinal round (presented by Culver's) by a 5-0 final.
The Falcons jumped in front just 1:18 into the game on the first shot taken by either team. UWSP responded with shots by
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) and
Ashtyn Wiltscheck (Sleepy Eye, Minn./New Ulm), but couldn't tally the equalizer.
Midway through the first, UWRF doubled the lead to 2-0. The Pointers held the deficit at two until late in the second. The Falcons added two goals in less than two minutes to put UWSP behind 4-0 heading to the third.
UWRF concluded the scoring with a tally at 11:17 of the third period.
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) led the Pointers with five shots on goal. As a team, UWSP had 13 in the game.
Oliva Schultz made 46 saves in net for the Pointers. UWRF goaltender Jordan O'Connor made all 13 saves.
The Pointers and Falcons play game two of the semifinal round on Friday (March 12) with puck drop scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
