RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (3-6-1) saw its season conclude on Friday with a 6-2 defeat at UW-River Falls (8-1-0) in the second game of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinal round.
UWSP goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) saved 17 shots before the Falcons broke through at the 17:03 mark of the first period. Schultz made three more saves to keep the deficit at one after one.
UWRF scored three times in the second period and again 35 seconds into the third to put UWSP behind 5-0.
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) got the Pointers on the board at 1:14 of the third with a power-play goal.
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) was credited with an assist.
The Falcons scored just over a minute later to push the deficit back to five.
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) scored her first career goal at 15:10 of the third period on a feed from
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson).
Schultz had a career-high 52 saves in the game, the third-most in program history. UWRF goaltender Jordan O'Connor had 18 saves.
The Pointers wrap up the season with a 3-6-1 record, including wins over Northland and UW-Superior. UWSP tied UW-Eau Claire to open the season.
