Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Halftime Lead Evaporates in Road Loss for Women’s Basketball

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2) held a six-point halftime lead, but host UW-Whitewater shot better than 55 percent from the floor to overtake the Pointers for a 64-50 win.

Senior Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) nearly racked up her second-straight double-double.  She led the Pointers with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Fellow seniors Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) grabbed five boards each.

The Pointers got buckets from Greenheck, Schmidt and Sierra Raine (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) to take a 6-0 lead.  UWSP defense held UWW scoreless for nearly seven and a half minutes to start the game. The Warhawks outscored UWSP 11-3 the final 2:39 of the quarter.

Collins had a personal 6-0 run to start the second quarter as UWSP retook the lead.  Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) and Raine combined for nine points and the Pointers held a 28-22 lead at halftime.

Julia Hickey (Silver Lake, Wis./Wilmot Union) drilled a three midway through the third quarter for a 36-31 lead, but UWSP went scoreless from the field the remainder of the period.

Collins made two early baskets as UWSP stayed close early in the fourth. The Warhawks then went on a 15-2 run to put the game away.  Hickey nailed another three in the final minute.

UWSP next travels to UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Feb. 10) for a 7:00 tilt with the Pioneers.
