EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – A pair of seniors scored goals as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (0-0-1) skated to a 2-2 overtime tie at UW-Eau Claire (0-0-1) on Wednesday.
Following a scoreless first period,
Alana Achterkirch (St. Michael, Minn./North Wright County) broke the ice with her eighth career goal to put UWSP ahead 1-0 at the 8:13 mark of the second period.
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) added an assist, the first of her UWSP career.
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) buried a power-play goal at the 16:03 mark to put UWSP up by a pair. Fellow senior
Cassie Newcomer (McFarland, Wis./Madison Capitols) provided her 16th career helper on the goal.
The Blugolds got on the board just over a minute later, but UWSP held the advantage heading to the third. At the 12:40 mark of the third, the Blugolds tied the game.

Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made two saves in overtime to secure the tie. She stopped 34 in the game. UWEC's Stephanie Martin made 16 saves.
The Pointers host the Blugolds in the home opener at Ice Hawks Arena on Friday (Feb. 5). Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
