STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and recorded her fourth double-double of the season, but the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-5, 3-5) fell to visiting UW-River Falls (2-6, 2-6) by a 78-68 score in the regular season finale.
Collins scored a team-high 18 points for the double-double. Freshman
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) added a season-high 13.
Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) added 10 points.
The Pointers jumped ahead 4-0 on a buckets by Collins, but the Falcons close the first quarter with a 22-5 run. Nies buried a three with 4:08 left in the first half as UWSP tried to dig out of a 22-point deficit.
Collins drilled a three as she scored the final five points in a 9-3 spurt by UWSP to start the third quarter. UWRF nailed five threes in the period to put the deficit for the Pointers back into double digits.
Nies hit a jumper with 1:27 remaining to pull the Pointers within five late, but UWSP was unable to complete the rally.
The Pointers travel to UW-La Crosse on Monday (March 1) for a 7:00 p.m. start in the quarterfinals of the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's).
