Collins Racks Up Another Double-Double, Pointers Fall in WIAC Tournament

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Senior Bailee Collins (Milton, Wis./Milton) registered her third-straight double-double, but it was enough as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (3-6) fell at UW-La Crosse (5-4) in the quarterfinals of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) by a 59-53 final.

Collins led all scorers with 23 points, a season high.  She also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go with a block.  Fellow seniors Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) were in double-digit scoring for the Pointers with 10 points each.

Five-consecutive points by Collins gave UWSP a 9-7 lead midway through the first quarter.  A pair of free throws by Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) pushed the advantage to four, the largest of the game for the Pointers, but an 8-0 run by UWL gave the Eagles a 20-17 edge after one.

Greenheck hit a jumper and Schmidt nailed a three to account for UWSP's scoring in a defensive second quarter that saw 15 total points combined by the two teams.  The Eagles led 30-22 at the half.

Schmidt made a layup four minutes into the third quarter to snap a six-and-a-half minute drought from the field for the Pointers as UWSP tried to dig out off a 13-point hole.  Collins made consecutive shots midway through the third as UWSP chipped away to cut the deficit to nine heading to the fourth.

Jessica Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) drilled a three amid an 8-0 run as the Pointers got within one with six minutes to play.  The Pointers stayed within a possession until 3:26 remained and UWSP made just two of its final nine shots as UWL secured the victory.

Collins was in double figures in eight of UWSP's nine games this season.  She had five double-doubles in the nine games.
