STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (2-5, 2-5) had five players in double figures and never trailed in a 98-65 home victory over UW-River Falls (3-3, 3-3).
Philip Flory (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Oshkosh North) led all scorers with 26 points.
Peter Timmerman (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) and
Brady Wagner (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) posted career-highs with 20 and 16 points, respectively.
Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) added 13 and
Cliff McCray (Madison, Wis./West) poured in 10 to round out the double-figure scorers.
Flory and Timmerman sank back-to-back threes to ignite a 12-0 run as the Pointers pulled away early. Flory hit three-more triples as the Pointers scored 53 in the first half for an 18-point lead at the break.
Timmerman, Wagner,
Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and
Anthony Espensen (Belvidere, Ill./North) combined to make seven three-pointers in the second half as UWSP pushed the lead to 33 twice.
The Pointers travel to River Falls to face UWRF in the regular season finale on Friday (Feb. 26). Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
