STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (1-3-1, 1-3-1) picked up a 3-1 victory over Northland (0-7-0, 0-7-0) with all three goals scored in the second period.
The visiting LumberJills got on the board in the first period, taking the lead just 2:27 into the contest.
Sophomore
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) netted her first of the year to tie the game at the 4:51 mark of the second period.
Haley Sellers (Kenosha, Wis./Milwaukee Jr. Admirals) posted an assist on the play.
Dain Heitsman and
Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) tallied goals 28 seconds apart to give the Pointers the lead. At 14:00, Heitsman scored the eventual game-winner off a feed from
Anna Cheney (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale). Neuberger bumped the lead to two at 14:28 off an assist from
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson).
Neither team scored in the third period and UWSP's defense allowed just four shots against in the final period.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) needed just 13 saves to pick up the win. NC goaltender Soleil Archambeault had 49 saves.
The Pointers and LumberJills close out the home-and-home on Saturday (Feb. 27) in Ashland. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m.
