ASHLAND, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (2-3-1, 2-3-1) finished the season sweep of Northland (0-8-0, 0-8-0) with a 6-1 victory on Saturday. The six goals by UWSP is the most in a conference game since an identical 6-1 win at UW-Superior on Feb. 12, 2016.
Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) broke the ice with a power-play tally with just 25 second remaining in the first period. Freshmen
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) and
Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) picked up their first career points with assists on the play.
Anna Cheney (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) gave UWSP a 2-0 lead with another power-play tally at the 5:30 mark of the second.
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) and
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) added helpers on the play.
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) notched her first career goal at the 9:30 mark of the second with sister
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) and Aadalen assisting on the play.
The LumberJills spoiled the shutout attempt with a goal late in the second.
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) started a third period barrage with a goal at the 4:57 mark.
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) and Granovsky were credited with assists.
At the 8:40 mark,
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) tallied a goal on a feed from Granovsky and Aadalen. Just over a minute later,
Shannon Motzko (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) buried a feed from
Alana Achterkirch (St. Michael, Minn./North Wright County) and
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) to complete the scoring.
Freshmen Aadalen, Berthiaume and Granovsky each had three points in the victory.
UWSP goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 21 saves for the win. Freshman
Shayna Grais (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) played the final 8:25 of the game and made the save on the only shot she saw. NC goaltender Teagen Johnson had 28 saves.
The Pointers face UW-Superior on Wednesday (March 3) in the regular season home finale. Puck drop at Ice Hawks Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
