MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (3-3-0, 3-3-0) allowed three first-period goals in a 4-1 loss at UW-Stout (4-3-0, 4-3-0) on Wednesday. The Pointers have allowed three or more goals in the first period in each of the three losses this season.
The Blue Devils scored three goals on eight shots in the first period to take an insurmountable advantage.
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) scored just 26 seconds into the second period, but it was the spark the Pointers needed.
Zach Zech (South Lyon, Mich./) and
Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn./) added assists. It was Gonrowski's third assist in the last two games.
The Blue Devils added an empty-net goal late int eh third to complete the scoring.
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made 20 saves for the Pointers. Brennan Kitchen stopped 28 shots for the win for UW-Stout.
The Pointers and Blue Devils tangle again at K.B. Willett Arena on Friday (Feb. 26) to wrap up the series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
