Four Pointers in Double Figures in Home Loss

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (1-4, 1-4) got double-figure scoring from four players, but fell to No. 13 UW-Oshkosh (3-1, 3-1) on Wednesday, 76-62.

Senior Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) led the Pointers in scoring with 20 points.  Philip Flory (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Oshkosh North) recorded his first double-double with the Pointers contributing 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and Cliff McCray (Madison, Wis./West) were also in double digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Nelson gave the Pointers an early 2-0 lead with a layup just under a minute in.  Flory scored all five points for UWSP in a 13-5 run by UWO.  McCray scored four-straight for UWSP as the Pointers regained a slim lead at 19-17.

After a Flory bucket, the Titans posted a 14-0 spurt to go ahead, a lead UWO would not relinquish.  Mootz buried a pair of threes late to pull the Pointers within 35-29 at the break.

McCray and Nelson scored UWSP's first eight points of the second half and a basket by Anthony Espensen (Belvidere, Ill./North) got UWSP within a possession.  The Tians pushed the lead back to double digits midway through the second half.

Mootz hit two more threes down the stretch, but UWSP couldn't cut into the deficit.

The Pointers travel to Oshkosh on Friday (Feb. 19) for a 7:00 p.m. rematch with the Titans.
