RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Senior
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, Ill./) scored the lone goal as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (2-1-0, 2-1-0) won its second straight with a 1-0 victory at UW-River Falls (1-2-0, 1-2-0).
Neither team was able to break the scoreless tie through the first two periods. The Pointers' defense held the Falcons to just three shots on goal in the second period.
Nearly halfway through the third period, Quagliata ripped a wrister past the UWRF netminder to give the Pointers the lead.
Wesley Ashley (Pittsburgh, Pa./) and
Colin Raver (Bartlett, Ill./) notched assists on the play.
UWSP goaltender
Eli Billing (Windsor, Ont./) made four of his 24 saves in the final 93 seconds as the Falcons had the man advantage with an empty net. The shutout was the fourth of Billing's career.
UWRF netminder Dean Buchholz made 26 saves.
The Pointers host the Falcons on Friday (Feb. 12) to close out the series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at K. B. Willett Arena.
