MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (7-3-1, 2-1-0) scored a season-high six goals in a 6-3 win at UW-Stout (2-7-0, 2-1-0) on Friday.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) opened the scoring at the 2:03 mark of the first.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) and
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) picked up assists as UWSP took a 1-0 lead.
Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) doubled the UWSP lead at 9:46 of the first on helpers from
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) and
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.).
After the Blue Devils got a power-play goal,
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) netted his first as a Pointer with 1:04 left in the first. Aromatario and Stewart grabbed their second points of the period with assists.
Stout got the only goal of the second period as the game headed to the third with UWSP up by one.
Hill pushed the UWSP advantage back to two at 4:51 of the third.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) and Humberstone had assists on the play. Hill added a shorthanded goal at 8:02, an unassisted goal, for a 5-2 lead.
The Blue Devils got a goal back with just under five minutes remaining. Then with an empty net and just 1:37 left,
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) tallied his first career goal to complete the scoring.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) had 15 saves in the win. Stout goaltender Tyler Masternak made 31 saves.
The Pointers face Northland in conference action at home on Saturday (Dec. 4). Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
