RIPON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (7-3) picked up a 59-56 win at Ripon (4-7) on Saturday.
 
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) had a game-high 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor and had five made free throws. She had two blocks and dished out a team-best three assists.
 
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) was also in double figure with 10 points.  Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) tied a season-high with eight points and hauled in five rebounds to tie for the team lead.
 
Anna Schoenike (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) hit a pair of free throws as UWSP tried to dig out an early 4-0 hole.  Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) posted five-straight points as the Pointers ended the first quarter with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 16-16.
 
The run ballooned to 15 as UWSP put up the first eight points of the second quarter.  Krueger scored with 3:37 left in the half and neither team scored again until a Ripon bucket with two seconds left, but the Pointers held a 32-27 lead at the half.
 
Pfeifer scored early in the third, but a drought from the floor saw the Red Hawks pull even at 38-38 with 4:47 remaining in the quarter.  Campion completed an and-one and UWSP posted the final six points of the quarter.
 
Ripon again rallied back and UWSP trailed, 46-45, with 7:12 left in the game.  Nies and Pfeifer combined for 10 of UWSP's final 14 points as UWSP held on late for the road win.
 
The Pointers return home to face Carthage on Monday (Dec. 20) at 3:00 p.m.  All fans with a UWSP ID will get into the game for free and the first 100 with a UWSP get a free bag of popcorn as UWSP host faculty/staff appreciation at Berg Gym in the final home event of 2021.
