STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Freshman
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) scored her first collegiate goals as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (1-4-0) dropped a 6-3 final to visiting St. Scholastica (2-1-0) on Saturday.
Stanius netted her first career goal at the 6:46 mark of the first period to give UWSP the lead. Her goal, assisted by
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), kept the Pointers in front at the end of one.
In the second period, the Saints put up three straight from the 5:21 to the 12:57 mark.
Stanius pulled the Pointers within one with her second of the game at 16:49 of the second. Fellow freshman
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn. /Maple Grove) added a helper. But the deficit went back to two just 17 seconds later.
Early in the third period,
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) persisted at the side of the net and scored an unassisted goal to once again pull the Pointers within one.
CSS scored twice in the third period and kept UWSP off the board the remainder of the game.
Oliva Schultz made 19 saves for the Pointers. CSS goaltender Lori Huseby had 28 saves.
The Pointers continue the home stand on Tuesday (Nov. 9) against St. Norbert. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
