OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (2-7, 0-6) scored first and last, but fell to No. 20 UW-Oshkosh (6-2, 4-2) by a 49-71 final in the Pointers' final road game of the season.
Max Herro (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) returned under center and threw two touchdown passes, both in the fourth quarter. Herro completed 16 passes, seven, including a touchdown, to
Jeremy Kobe (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet).
Defensively, it as senior
Kameron Kryzanski (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) leading the charge again with a game-high nine tackles.
Berkley Corvino (Weston, Wis./DC Everest) added eight, including the lone sack by UWSP.
After the UWSP defense forced a three-and-out to begin the game, UWSP started with the ball on its own 42. Eight plays and 27 yards later,
Victor Ponterio (Melrose, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) put UWSP in front with a 48-yard field goal.
On the ensuing drive, it took UWO just three plays to go 75 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. The Titans would find the end zone on three-straight possessions to take a 21-3 lead.
In the second quarter, the UWSP defense forced a punt with another three-and-out. But a fumble during the return gave UWO a short field. On the next play, the Titans plunged into the end zone. Another touchdown on the next possession saw the Pointers in a 35-3 hole at the half.
The Titans poured it on in the third quarter scoring on their only two possessions that combined for a methodical 17 plays.
In the fourth quarter, Herro constructed a 12-play 70-yard drive culminating with an 18-yard touchdown pass to
Ernie LaSpisa (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) to make it 49-10.
On the next UWSP possession, a nice mix of rushes and passes saw the Pointers go 60 yards in nine plays. Herro hit Kobe from 15 yards for the drive-ending touchdown.
The Pointers return home for the regular-season finale on Saturday (Nov. 13). Kickoff against UW-Whitewater is slated for 1:00 p.m.
