Opening Possessions Net Points for UWSP Football in Regular Season Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (2-8, 0-7) put up points in the opening possession of each half in a 56-10 loss to No. 3 UW-Whitewater (10-0, 7-0).

Kameron Kryzanski (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) recorded seven tackles to surpass 100 takedowns on the year.  Berkley Corvino (Weston, Wis./DC Everest) led UWSP with 10 tackles.

Offensively, Max Herro (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) completed 13 passes, including the lone UWSP touchdown in the game.  Trey Schroeder (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) went 4-for-6 in limited action.

The Pointers recovered the opening kickoff at the UWW 17.  Four plays later, Victor Ponterio (Melrose, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) kicked a 25-yard field goal to put the Pointers ahead, 3-0.  Ponterio's make was the first successful field goal against the Warhawks all season.

Two plays later, UWW found the end zone for the first time for a 7-3 lead.  On the first play of the second quarter, the Warhawks pushed the deficit to 14-3.  UWW would find the end zone on its next two possessions to take a 28-3 lead into half time.

To open the second half, UWSP began on its own 25.  Four completions and eight plays later the Pointers found pay dirt.  Herro hit Joe Aguilera (Dorchester, Wis./Abbotsford) on a nine-yard completion to cut the lead to 28-10.

Again, it took UWW just a handful of play to score a touchdown.  UWW found the end zone in each of its three possessions of the third quarter and once more in the fourth to complete the scoring.

The Pointers end the season with eight-straight losses following a 2-0 start to the season. Despite the lopsided defeats to end the year, UWSP did score first in each of its last three games against ranked foes.
