STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (1-3-0) led early and rallied back in the third period, but fell to visiting St. Scholastica (1-1-0) in the home opener, 6-3.
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) netted her second goal in as many games to give UWSP the lead at 13:37 of the first period.
Soile Doyle (Hayward, Wis. /Hayward) got her first career point with an assist and
Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) got the other assist for her first point of the season.
The Saints evened the game with 1:41 left in the first period. CSS put up two goals in the second period to put UWSP in a 3-1 hole.
With less than a second left in the second period,
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) scored to make it 3-2.
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) had the helper on the play.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn. /Maple Grove) pulled the Pointers even at 3-3 just 35 seconds into the third period.
Bella Moskonas (Greenfield, Wis.) posted her first assist of the year on the play.
The Saints retook the lead at 11:43 of the third. Just over a minute later, CSS added a power-play goal and capped the scoring in the final minute with an empty-netter.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 34 saves for the Pointers. Lori Huseby stopped 31 UWSP shots for the win.
The Pointers and Saints close out the weekend series on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
