STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (5-2-0, 1-0-0) opened league play on Friday with a 5-0 win over No. 14 UW-River Falls.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) stopped all 29 shots he faced for the first shutout of the season and the first of his career.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) opened the scoring at 5:22 of the first period.
Jordan Roo (Champlin, Minn.) picked up an assist, his first of three helpers on the night.
In the closing seconds of the first period,
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) capitalized on a good bounce off a dump-in by
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) for a shorthanded goal at 19:44.
Roo added his second assist on a goal by
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn.) three minutes into the second period.
The three-goal lead increased just 1:29 into the third period.
Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill.) put home a feed from
Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn.) for a 4-0 lead.
Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill.) netted his first goal as a Pointer with a blast from the point. Roo notched his third assist of the night on the goal.
UWRF goaltender Dean Buchholz made 23 saves in the loss.
The Pointers travel to UW-Superior on Saturday (Nov. 20) to close out the weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
