STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (15-2, 2-2) didn't go quietly despite a 9-0 defeat to UW-La Crosse (4-1, 3-1) on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) picked up a first set win, 6-1, at No. 4 singles. After dropping the second set, 6-2, she played a super-breaker coming up just short, 10-6.
Hess teamed with
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) at No. 2 doubles in an 8-5 loss. UWSP's No. 1 double team of
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) also fell, 8-5.
Koepp won six points in her No. 3 singles match. Faith and
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) each won four points at No. 2 and No. 5 singles respectively.
Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) won three points at No. 6 singles as did the No. 3 doubles team of
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland).
The Pointers will next play on Friday (Oct. 15) in the home finale against UW-Eau Claire. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.
