NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Freshman
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had more aces and assists than the entire North Central team (6-6) on Friday for the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (17-4) in a four-set win.
Michalske served up a season-high six aces for the Pointers, NCC had five. She also racked up 38 assists to NCC's 34 as a team. She also had seven digs and a kill.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) posted another double-double, her 12th of the season. She led all players with 17 kills and contributed 11 digs.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led a trio Pointers in double-figures with 16 digs.
Kelsie Belfiori (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) added 14.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) compiled 10 kills and had a game-high four blocks.
Kopp started the match with a kill and had four by the time UWSP was ahead 13-9. After a pair of points by the Cardinals, Michalske took over at the service line reeling off three of her aces in an 11-0 burst by the Pointers en route to a 25-12 win.
Guresi Mena (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) sparked a 9-1 run with a kill and Kopp posted four kills with Michalske serving another ace for a 15-7 lead in set two.
Reis Derousseau (Tomah, Wis./Tomah) had a pair of kills and
Abby Neutz (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) added three late as UWSP took the second set, 25-17.
Peterson posted an ace as the Pointers battled back to tie the third set at 20-20. Kopp and Mosinski each had a kill late, but NCC held on to take the third, 25-23.
Michalske served up her sixth ace of the match as UWSP opened the fourth set up 2-0 early. Kopp sparked a five-point run with a kill and served up consecutive aces of her own as UWSP took a 17-14 lead. Mena keyed another run with a kill and Belfiori got an ace as the Pointers wrapped the match with a 25-17 win.
The Pointers close out the weekend in Illinois on Saturday (Oct. 9) at the Wheaton Tri. UWSP faces Elmhurst at 9:00 a.m. before playing host Wheaton at 11:00 a.m.
