Pointers Battle to the End in Home Defeat to UWW

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (15-1, 2-1) saw its win streak come to an end on Tuesday, but not without an enormous amount of grit.  The Pointers fell to UW-Whitewater (9-0, 5-0) by a 9-0 final.

UWSP's No. 1 doubles duo of Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) battled to an 8-5 final.  Koepp then put up the biggest fight in her No. 3 singles match, nearly forcing a super-breaker.  After dropping the first set, 6-4, she pushed the limits before falling 7-5 in the second set.

Kaitlyn Hess (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) also pushed her opponent at No. 4 singles.  Hess drops both sets by a 6-3 score.

Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won four points at No. 3 doubles.  Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) and Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) each won three points at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

The Pointers remain at home with a 12:00 p.m. league match against UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 9).
