STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (1-1-0) conceded four first-period goals and were unable to complete the comeback in a 5-3 setback in the home opener against St. Norbert (1-1-0).
The Green Knights got on the board just 2:34 into the game to silence the K.B. Willett Arena crowd.
Just over five minute later,
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C.) tied the game off a feed from
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C.).
The game wasn't tied long though. SNC retook the lead just 16 seconds later. The Green Knights scored twice more before the midpoint of the first period to stun the Pointers with a 4-1 lead.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) got the Pointers on the board again at the 4:25 mark of the second.
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) picked up his first point at UWSP with an assist on the goal.
Late in the third,
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) pulled the Pointers within 5-3 on a feed from
Connor Scahill (Port Huron, Mich.), but UWSP was unable to get any closer.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) made 13 saves over 37-plus minutes in relief. SNC goaltender Johnny Roberts had 23 saves.
The Pointers hit the road for a weekend in Minnesota with games at Gustavus Adolphus on Friday (Nov. 5) and at St. Scholastica on Saturday (Nov. 6). Game time both nights is 7:00 p.m.
